She was born to Audeo Kulkarni and Jankibai in 1628 AD at a town named Deogaon to the west of Verula, a place well known for its carved temples. Shrikrishna Saraswati Swami of Kolhapur was during the period 1836 -1900 AD. Of the various incarnation of Lord Dattatreya that occurred, only this biography is completely available from Swami's birth to the day he took Samadhi. Swami is also known widely as Dattaswami, being incarnation of Lord Dattatreya. He stayed at Kolhapur (Maharastra, India) in Kumbhar Galli (Potters Lane) and hence he was called as Kumbhar Swami.
